Michael and I met online through a mutual friend at the start of 2003 and began developing a friendship over the next few months.
We began dating in July 2003 and had moved in together by December that same year.
The week before my birthday in November 2008, Michael suggested we go out to Brett’s Wharf for dinner to celebrate.
Afterwards, he eventually persuaded me to go for a walk and drove me to the park under the Story Bridge. When I was getting out
of the car, I began to complain that I couldn’t walk in my high heel shoes – but Michael was prepared and handed me my favourite
pair of thongs.
As I sat on a park bench with the Lights of the City reflected on the river in front of me and the Story Bridge lit up behind,
Michael got down on bended knee. That was the moment I knew he was about to propose. He said, “You know how much
I love you, but I want to show the World. Babe, will you marry me?” and presented me with my gorgeous engagement ring,
which he chose himself. I flung my arms around him and cried, “Yes, of course I will!”
My Mum, Rosanne, has been a constant beacon of guidance and support throughout the entire wedding planning process.
She gives her honest opinion, which I really appreciate. I love her dearly and could never repay her for all her help in
planning our Wedding.
My Dad, Russell, lives in Townsville and we had only kept in contact via phone for the past two years before finally seeing
each other in person again the day before he walked me down the aisle. I was so glad he could still be a part of my Wedding Day.
Michael’s Mum, Kathy, has been so warm and welcoming to me over the years that I have been with Michael. She is always
ready to lend a helping hand or a sympathetic ear. She is a wonderful Mother-In-Law to have!
Michael’s Dad, Robert, is very accepting of people and has always been willing to provide help when it’s needed. He keeps a
level head in all situations and is a very solid character. He and Kathy will be married 37 years this October.
We would like to thank our suppliers, who made our wedding day even more special;
We were wed by Nicole Dymock from Dream Ceremonies. Her easy-going nature made it so easy for us to chat and take the
time to create and develop our Ceremony. We were also so grateful to her on the day, as she organized our guests into lines
on either side of the aisle and instructed them to blow bubbles as Michael and I walked past. She also waited ever-so patiently
for us to sign the register, which was postponed due to the rain.
The Cake Girl, Antonella Veddovi, baked 80 cupcakes, and sculpted our top tier into the shape of a giant cupcake. There were
three different designs on each of the cupcakes to reflect our theme. We had chocolate mud and vanilla flavoured cakes.
Dallas Rodriguez, from River Weddings and Bouquets, fashioned my stunning bouquet from my instructions – “I just want
white flowers with green foliage in a messy, round handheld style”.
Kate Ballard from Purple Daze created a glamorous, yet natural look to compliment my personal style and made me feel so
beautiful on the day. I also made it hard on her, as I changed my mind on how I wanted to up style my hair since having my
trial in January
Sarah Andrews at The Pavilion rescued Michael and I when we found out our original choice of Reception Venue had gone into
receivership only three months out from our Wedding Day. Sarah provided so much information and was so patient and
understanding about my continuous questions and requests. The room was magnificent; the staff went above and beyond
in their service to our guests and the food – delicious!
Finally, Michael and I want to send out a big THANK YOU to Jen! Our photographs are amazing and we could not have asked
for a more passionate, talented, creative, helpful and friendly photographer. It has been such a lovely experience working
together with you to create our lasting memories. We are so happy. We’ll definitely be booking your services again for new
and exciting events that will hopefully take place in the future!
In the week leading up to the wedding, we were constantly checking the Bureau of Meteorology website to find out what the
weather had in store for us on the Saturday of our wedding. When we checked it on Monday, the forecast for Saturday
read: Sunny. We looked at the website on Tuesday, Saturday’s forecast was: Mostly Fine, on Wednesday, Saturday’s weather
would be: Cloudy, Thursday, Saturday was predicted to have: A Few Showers and Friday: Rain Periods…
Despite the overcast and drizzly afternoon, I was amazed by the overwhelming feeling of warmth and love from all
our guests who came to share the day with us. Even though we were surrounded by approximately 100 guests, as
soon as I reached the spot where Michael was standing, he was the only person I could see. The ceremony felt
like it was over in a blink of an eye, but I can still remember the look of love in Michael’s bright blue eyes
as he looked at me and told me how beautiful I was. He managed to keep me calm and (mostly) tear-free by squeezing
my hands, smiling comfortingly at me and continually holding my gaze during the formalities.
We decided to have a relaxing five days on Hamilton Island. After our drizzly, overcast wedding day, we were so
stoked to be heading to the Sunny Whitsundays. Staying at the Beach Club, we enjoyed cocktails by the pool, cocktails
on the beach, cocktails at lunch AND cocktails at dinner! I never wanted to leave. Although our holiday had to come
to an end, I am definitely happy to be spending the rest of my life with my husband by my side!
